In 1955, segregation was an enormous problem for the colored people in the south. Almost everything was segregated including water fountains, buses, and even public restrooms. Rosa Parks was one of many different people during this time, who wanted equality between blacks and whites. On her way home from work, Rosa sat in the congregated section for both blacks and whites. Then, a white man entered the already packed bus. Even though the middle area was for both races, blacks and whites were not allowed to sit in the same row. All the seats in that row were full, so if the one white man sat down all the black people would have to stand. Rosa was asked to stand, but refused, so when she decided to stay seated on the bus they took her to jail, and that is what inspired the Montgomery bus boycott. Some people do not see Rosa as a hero, but I do, and that is why I decided to choose her for my history fair topic.
